The Emakoko – Nairobi National Park
The Emakoko is a boutique lodge located in a gorge on the border of Nairobi National Park. Firstly, simply visiting Nairobi National Park is a treat in on itself. It is the only such wildlife park within such close proximity to a capital city. A harmonious co-existence between the wild jungle and the urban jungle. The Emakoko is doubtless one of the best places to stay to get the best out of your safari at Nairobi National Park.
Getting There
From the airport, the lodge is a 45-minute drive away. A hotel transfer to the lodge has to be one of the most unique experiences. Why? One has to drive through Nairobi National Park to get there. In other words, a few minutes after your arrival, one is immediately immersed in the safari experience. No better way to say, “Jambo! Karibu, Kenya.” Nairobi National Park is home to four of the big five, over 400 species of birds, and other wild animals such as giraffes, gazelles, buffalos, warthogs and so many more.
The Emakoko is hosted by the lovely Emma and Anthony Childs. They live on site with their small family. The staff is a diverse team of Kenyans from all over the country.
The Emakoko
The lodge itself is a serene setting that is one with nature. There are only 10 rooms which means exclusivity and personalized service delivery is assured. The setting is quiet and relaxing. Rooms built on the cliff side offer panoramic views of the park and come with private verandahs. What lodge would be complete without a swimming pool? The Emakoko does not disappoint with a beautiful and uniquely designed pool to cool down in.
Furthermore, The Emakoko has a jewelry boutique. The jewelry is locally crafted and the boutique also serves as one of the major outlets for Africa Adorned Jewelry Ltd.
The Food
Chef Steve will treat your taste buds to Swahili flavored cuisine. After that take a culinary journey to Britain, France, Thailand, and India as dishes from all these countries are available at The Emakoko. Salad ingredients are sourced from the on-site garden or other local marketplaces. The organic experience does not end there. Eggs are sourced from chicken reared on site. The culinary experience at the Emakoko brings a whole new meaning to farm to table food.
Activities
Obviously, game drives are a central feature of things to do at The Emakoko. Visiting the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is also a feature activity. For a more adventurous touch consider helicopter safaris to the Masai Mara or Mt. Kenya. Also, the lodge’s close proximity to Nairobi means shopping excursions to the city are also a viable option.
In summary, The Emakoko is a unique and serene escape that offers an authentic Kenyan safari experience while still keeping a pulse on Nairobi’s buzzing urban life.
